About the area of Poros

The area of Poros – Galatas is a very picturesque area with nature of pristine beauty that combines crystal clear sea with mountains, pine trees with cypresses and olive trees, traditional architecture and contemporary comforts. A narrow sea channel full of little and bigger sailing boats separates mainland Peloponnese -where Galatas town is- with Poros island. So Poros island stands opposite of the Peloponnese coast, where Galatas town is, at close distance ( 5 minutes by ferry boat / 2 minutes with the little boats at service 24/7 ).

Poros island has a main town with port/bayfront, Poros town is traditional and protected. The general Poros area ( includes the Peloponnese / continental side as well ) combines sea and mountain at close distances.

Lots of cultural activity during the summer with cultural events both in Poros & Galatas -also the world famous Athens Festival at the ancient theater of Epidaurus is 20 minutes drive.

The area is a hub for many sports & leisure activities also : sailing, fishing, world famous waterski school, hiking, riding club, wind surfing, diving, water sports, biking, sup, sea kayaking, mountain bike, 4x4 off road activities etc. There are 3 medical centers ( 2 public and 1 private) and very frequent departures for Athens ( flying dolphins, car ferries and busses) – although you can always drive your car to Athens/ Athens airport ( about 2 hours ). The area attracts tourism in summer and has a cosmopolitan air, yet it has not been overexploited - many people from abroad have bought properties and live all or half year long. Eating and drinking out is cheap.
