KLEIÓ /Serene Country Retreat with Spiritual Connection
Nestled into a hillside of the Peloponnese, KLEIÓ is an elegant country retreat designed around peace, simplicity, and a seamless connection to nature and greek identity. Embracing crisp white façades and clean lines, the project creates an oasis of calm where light, materiality, and quiet form work together to evoke a sense of timeless serenity.
Design Philosophy
MATERIALITY WITH SUBSTANCE
Rather than introducing superfluous elements, KLEIÓ embraces simplicity. Carefully arranged volumes and angles that frame spectacular views while defining indoor and outdoor living. The retreat’s whitewashed walls and sculptural arcs echo traditional saronic architecture, yet its scale and proportion are entirely contemporary—resulting in a home that feels both rooted and refreshingly modern and comfortable.
Materials are used intentionally and sparingly: smooth plaster, natural stone floors specially sourced from greek quarry, wooden frames with double glazed glasses manufactured by local carpenters and timber vaulted ceiling—all chosen for blending into the Mediterranean landscape in tactile harmony with nature's textures
Comfort Through Subtlety
Behind the serene appearance lies intelligent design:
Climate-conscious Envelope :
Thick plaster walls with insulation, white pebble terraces and energy efficient frames combine to reduce solar gain and stabilise indoor temperatures.
Natural Ventilation :
Cross breezes flow through open-plan living and generous sliding openings, minimizing reliance on mechanical cooling.
Spaciousness & Privacy :
Communal spaces are open plan while privacy is maintained in distinct quarters, equally generous in size and light.
Outdoor Integration & Experience
Terraces flow from living spaces, offering continuous movement—sun, shade, open sky. A lage open air dining area connects main building with guest house while terraces invite moments of stillness and contemplation. Native planting softens geometry and stone from the land itself was used for the landscaping walls, elements that anchor the retreat to its context.
